THE INTERVIEW
Richard asking the questions on behalf on Toni
1 . RICHARD When you began to train Martial Arts? [Roy Macdonald] in
1962 in a Martial Art combining Karate-Ju-jitsu and a Chinese Style [only
for 1 year] in Glasgow Scotland.
2. How and when Kenpo? [Roy Macdonald] First began Kenpo in 1970 in
Jersey, 1st Teacher an Irish Instructor Mr Don Cassidy from Dublin
3. speak to us a little about GM Ed Parker? ; When you meet him? [Roy
Macdonald] First met Mr Parker in 1975 in Santa Monika Studio in Los
Angeles California at the Ed Parker Kenpo Karate Studio, Mr Parker some
years later came to Jersey and visited us a total of 19 times, one
occassion was the very 1st ever European
Kenpo Championships held in Jersey
in 1982, since then and right up to 2008 the Europeans have been in
existance, but has evelved to be now the IKKA World Kenpo
Karate Championships as so many other countries have joined the IKKA, held
since 1982 every single year, Roy Macdonald has been to nearly every one
since 1982 only ever missing 2 Championships.
Jersey 2008 is continuing to keep the special Kenpo flame of frienship
burning, and continuing to keep alive the dream of Mr Parker. of having an
International World Association
of Kenpo Practitioners.
4. Which can be the cause there are so many associations of Kenpo
Karate? [Roy Macdonald] When Mr Parker died so many Black Belts decided to
leave the IKKA and form their own Association, Federation, Organisation or
what ever name they could think of, they had no one as a leader so they
placed themself as a leader but of their own Association, mostly for
reasons with money being involved. Many Black Belts lost the one very KEY
point of LOYALTY for even as the Master had died his
Association lived on, evn to this present day. They very conveniently for
their own gains did not keep the Flag flying or Flame burning but decided to
have their own flag flying,
of course the Black Belts took Mr Parkers teachings that he had taught them
and then suddenly created their own Style and System and called it whatever
///
convenientlly omitting the fact that Mr Parker devoted his life to the Art
of Kenpo for 45 plus years with 24--7 hours spent
creating, developing, promoting etc his lifetime devotion
that they actually stole the Knowledge he had given them, we in Jersey
continued from the very 1st day of study to the present day to fly the flag
and keep the IKKA flame burning.
and we are proud to be able to say that we are continuing the PARKER LINEAGE
5. When arrive the Kenpo Karate to Jersey?[Roy Macdonald] It arrived in
1968 brought over to Jersey by a Black Belt called Maurice Mahon from Dublin
Ireland, Mr Mahon was 1 of 4 Black Belts promoted in Ireland years before
this by a Mr parker BB called John Macsweeney who was Studying at Dublin
University.
This was called the OLD Style of Kenpo as it remained isolated in Ireland
and Jersey and never moved forward with Mr Parkers developement for so many
years.
Modern day Kenpo as some call it was introduced to Jersey in 1974 by Roy
Macdonald after he travelled to USA, on his return he split away from the
Irish who objected to Roy
introducing the vastly improved System of Kenpo. Roy took over the running
of Jersey kenpo when his Instructor returned to Irealand [Don Cassidy]
