Welfare Committee of Barcelona's harbour : Stella Maris has the permament secretary and also participates actively in the Welfare Committee of Barcelona's Harbour constituted by the Port Authority of Barcelona, representatives of the shipping agents, representatives of pilot boats, representatives of shipowners, Instituto Social de la Marina, trade unions, and some other associations. The committee works to improve the welfare of seafarers, as well as to solve punctual problems in the harbour, for instance the one of the crews from abandoned ships. In the same way, the Committee organises international seminars and lectures, like that which took place in January 2000 dealing about the welfare of seafarers in the harbour and the problem of abandoned crews, or in November 2000 about the precarious situation of the crews from luxurious cruises.
