RELIGIOUS SERVICES :

Holy Mass is celebrated in the Stella Maris chapel every Sunday at 10:30 a.m., as well as all Christian festivities. In addition, many important festivities as Christmas and Easter Sunday are celebrated, as well as weddings and christenings. There are New Testaments and other religious publications in different languages, which can be distributed over seafarers when they ask for.

It is also possible to celebrate ecumenical services or other denominations celebrations if asked in a couple of days in advance.

Other celebrations:

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS :

On Christmas Eve, a group of boy-scouts go on board the ships with some volunteers of Stella Maris. They have small hand-made cribs to offer as a gift to the seafarers.

The Apostleship of the Sea of Barcelona celebrates, every year, the religious festivities during Christmas time, as the Holy Mass on December 24th, and the Epiphany on January the 6th. Celebrations are not only the religious services, but also with the creation of a familiar atmosphere for those seafarers who are far away from home.
The following photographies reflect some fond moments during those celebrations.

We also celebrate sometimes weddings of seafarers and baptisms of their children.

Wedding of Diego Leyva (from Colombia) and Beatrix Lorentz (from Romania), both seafarers, celebrated by Fr. Piero Legrenzi, in our chappel.

Visit of Cardinal Stephen F. Hamao and the Archbishop of Barcelona Lluís Martínez Sistach:

On November 5th, 2004, the Cardinal Stephen F. Hamao, president of the Pontificial Council of Migrants, from which the International Apostleship of the Sea depends, visited Barcelona Stella Maris center, with the Archbishop of Barcelona, Lluís Martínez Sistach. Mass was celebrated during this visit, and afterwards, a meeting was held with all Stella Maris volunteers.

Chaplains on board:

The Apostleship of the Sea in Barcelona offers the possibility of a chaplain on board for 1 week or 10 days. It will be necessary to plan it before 3 or 4 weeks.

Virgen del Carmen

Every year the closest Saturday to July 16th is celebrated the procesion in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of the seafarers.

An image of the Virgin is held by some fishermen from the Barceloneta square to the Muelle del Reloj, where it is boarded in a fishing boat and is carried across the harbour. Many fishing boats follow Her in procession.

At the end of the day, a Mass is celebrated on the harbour and a wreath is thrown to the sea for the sailors died the previous year.
