Catalonia, Catalunya in Catalan, with seven milion inhabitants is the biggest non independent nation of Europe.

Catalan is one of the two official languages of Catalonia, the other is Castilian (Spanish), both official. Catalonia has regulated its institutions and their various competencies within the framework the Spanish constitution provides in the "Sau Statute.". However, a new Statute is in process of negotiation with the spanish government.

The Vegueries are the catalonia regions and are divided in Comarques (equivalent to counties). The vagueries are not the official regions of Catalonia yet they are the real catalan administrative regions, the provinces (Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida and Girona are a spanish invention).

Catalonia is a very active country, the first destination in Spain for both tourism and bussiness (25% of visitors in Spain) and a similar % of the exportations. It is also the first industrial autonomous region by far. Catalan population is about a 15% of total spanish population.
