Los terrenos de la Confederación
Hidrográfica Valenciana, llamada Confederación
Hidrográfica del Jucar, están compuestos por las
cuencas de todos los rios que desembocan al mar

La Comunidad
Valenciana tiene un clima mediterráneo; esto significa que
durante el final del tercer trimestre del año e inicios del
cuarto trimeste del año se produce el fenómeno climático
llamado "gota fría".
Valencia's
Region has a Mediterranean climate; this means that during the
end of the third quarter of the year and beginnings of the fourth
quarter of the year there takes place the climatic phenomenon so
called " cold drop ".
Este fenómeno
provoca intensas lluvias a lo largo de toda la cuenca alta del
rio Turia, lo que siempre ha provocado, a lo largo de la
historia, notables incrementos del agua en el tramo final del
río a su paso por la ciudad de Valencia.
This
phenomenon is a cause of intense rains along the whole high basin
of the Turia river, which has always caused, along the history,
notable water increases in the final river stretch to his step
along the city of Valencia.

La ciudad de Valencia fue fundada por los
romanos en el año 138 a.C. La ciudad se ubicó en una
pequeña isla en medio del tramo final del río Turia, a
poca distancia del mar Mediterráneo. The city of Valencia was founded by the Romans in 138 B.C. The city was located in a small island in the middle of the final stretch of the Turia river, at short distance of the Mediterranean sea. Desde la fundación de la ciudad

periódicamente, el rio Turia inundó la antigua ciudad
de Valencia. |
Se tiene
conocimiento de que el 17 de agosto de 1358 el río Turia se
desbordó y produjo grandes inundaciones, 400 muertos y la
destrucción de mil viviendas.
It is known
that on August 17, 1358, the Turia river exceeded and produced
big floods, 400 dead men and the destruction of thousand
housings.

En el año 1358 la ciudad de Valencia
creó la "Junta de Murs y Valls" que tuvo como
misión construir numerosas obras hidráulicas y
defensivas necesarias en la ciudad entre los siglos XIV y
XVIII, debido al crecimiento de la ciudad. In the year 1358 the city of Valencia created the " Council of Walls and Fences " that had as mission construct numerous hydraulic works and necessary defensives in the city between the XIV th and XVIII th century, due to the growth of the city. Antiguo "
Reino de Valencia " cuya capital recibe el mismo

conocimiento de que en 1517 Valencia sufrió una terrible
inundación por una de las mayores riadas del río Turia.

Una de las
principales obras llevadas a cabo por la " Junta de Murs y
Valls " fué la construcción de unos altos pretiles, a
ambos lados del cauce, para defender a la ciudad de las crecidas
del rio Turia. Estos antiguos pretiles son los mismos que hoy en
día pueden verse en el antiguo cauce del Turia y que han sido de
utilidad durante muchos siglos.
One of the
principal works carried out for " Council of Walls and
Fences " was the construction of a high natural stone
parapets (masonry), on both riverbed sides, to defend to the city
of the rises of the Turia river. These ancient parapets are the
same that nowadays can be seen in the ancient Turia riverbed and
that have been of usefulness for many centuries.

El primer plano
en la historia en el que se representa una vista aérea de la
ciudad de Valencia, fué redactado por el llamado " Padre
Tosca ".
The first
drawing in the history in which there is represented an aerial
view of the Valencia city, was drawn for so called " Tosca
Father ".

El 14 de octubre de 1957, como
consecuencia de unas fuertes lluvias, caídas los días
13 y 14 en la cuenca media y baja, el antiguo rio Turia
se desbordó a su paso por Valencia, innundando más de
la mitad de la ciudad. No se recuerda otra peor riada de
su historia. On October 14, 1957, as consequence of a few strong rains, fallen on the 13th and 14th, in the middle and low basin, the ancient Turia river overflew to his step along Valencia, flooding more than half city. Another worse flood is not remembered in all his history. |
El agua alcanzó
alturas de más de tres metros en puntos del centro de Valencia y
muchos edificios resultaron afectados gravemente. También los
terrenos de huerta resultaron afectados.
The water
reached heights of more than three meters in points of the
Valecia center and many buildings turned out to be affected
seriously. Also the tillage lands turned out to be affected.
Hubieron
numerosas pérdidas humanas, numerosas familias perdieron sus
casas, los daños en la agricultura fueron incalculables. En
definitiva, fueron grandísimas las pérdidas económicas. Se
calcula que 3/4 partes de la ciudad quedaron bajo el agua. Y
Valencia fué declarada como zona catastrófica.
There were
numerous human losses, numerous families lost his houses, the
damages in the agriculture were incalculable. Definitively, the
economic losses were the biggest. It is calculated that 3/4 from
the city they stayed under the water. And Valencia was declared
as disaster area.
En la
actualidad, en muchos edificios de la ciudad de Valencia y en
muchas calles todavía se encuentran carteles y marcas con frases
como " Hasta aquí llegó la riada ".
At present,
in many buildings of the city of Valencia and in many streets
still they can find cartels and brands with phrases like "
Hitherto the flood came ".

Para evitar futuros desbordamientos, el
gobierno del Estado Español decidió desviar el río por
fuera de la ciudad y construir un nuevo cauce . Esta
solución técnica se llamó el " Plan Sur de
Valencia ". To avoid future overflows, the Spanish Government decided to turn the river aside externally from the city and to construct a new riverbed. This technical solution was called " Valencia's South Plan ". |

Para construir el Plan sur de Valencia fue
necesario realizar muchas expropiaciones de terrenos. El
Nuevo Cauce fué inaugurado en 1968 (o 1972 ?). To construct the Valencia's South Plan it was necessary to realize many expropriations of areas. Was the New Riverbed inaugurated in 1968 (or 1972?). |

En abril de 1987 se inaugura el primer
edificio significativo de la "nueva
construcción" de la ciudad en las proximidades del
Antiguo Cauce - tangente al Antiguo Cauce - , el llamado
" Palau de la Música ". El Antiguo Cauce que se ha convertido en
referente para todos los ciudadanos y en una de las más
amplias zonas verdes de la ciudad. Allí se congregan a
diario deportistas, niños y familias que disfrutan de

A partir del año 1995 empieza la
construcción, dentro del antiguo cauce, de la "
Cuidad de las Artes y de las Ciencias " proyectada
por el arquitecto valenciano Santiago Calatrava. También
se han construido varios nuevos puentes que cruzan sobre
el antiguo cauce por necesidades del crecimiento de la
ciudad. From the year 1995 it begins the construction, inside the ancient riverbed, of the " Arts and Sciences City " designed by the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava. El Nuevo Cauce
recoge las aguas del rio Turia 5 km al oeste del centro de la
ciudad de Valencia, conduce las aguas por el sur de la ciudad y
las hace desembocar en el mar mediterráneo a 2'5 km al sur de la
desembocadura natural junto al pueblo de Pinedo.
The New
Riverbed gathers the waters of the river Turia 5 km to the west
of the Valencia's city center, leads the waters for the south of
the city and makes them end in the Mediterranean Sea to 2 ' 5 km
to the south of the natural mouth together Pinedo village.

Los bordes del Nuevo Cauce están
recorridos por sendas autovías de gran capacidad,
perfectamente integradas, hoy en día, en la red general
de carreteras que circunda Valencia y varios puentes
atraviesan en Nuevo Cauce. The rims of the New Riverbed are crossed by both highways of great capacity, perfectly integrated, nowadays, in the general roads net that surrounds Valencia and several bridges cross in New Riverbed. |

En la actualidad el Nuevo Cauce no
canaliza ningún agua de lluvia, ya que se aprovecha toda
para los regadíos. No obstante, los últimos 3 km el
cauce está lleno de agua del mar. At present the New Riverbed does not canalize any rainwater, since all the water is used to irrigate the fields. Nevertheless, the last 3 km the riverbed is full of water of the sea. |

Los pretiles del Nuevo Cauce en sus
últimos 3 - 4 km están construidos de escollera sin
revestir, estando los tramos anteriores revestidos de
hormigón. The rims of the New Riverbed in his last 3 - 4 km are constructed of jetty without covering, being the previous stretches covered of concrete. |
