Attached the beginning of a contract from a Basque whaler with a Dutch whale ship owner dated 1616.

A number of contracts were publised in 1898 by Prof. Dr. G.W. Kernkamp, a Dutch historian.

The book in which the contracts are printed is in such a bad state that it is impossible to make more copies.

This is a so called "pen painting" with black ink on a white background by Adriaen Salm 1657-1720. This is a very difficult technique but very accurate.

Adriaen Salm lived in the small whaling town Delfshaven now part of Rotterdam.

The picture mentions Abraham but should be Adriaen.

Now-a-days Salm's  paintings are highly in demand by whaling museums all over the world.
