The tail of the raa# راء

This letter is one-fourth of a circle. It starts at the reference line, plunging almost vertically, and ends one square below it. The tail takes off almost horizontally. Unlike the tail of the nuwn نون, it does not rise back to the reference line.

The start should not drop right down, but slightly rightwards. The end shouldn't be exactly horizontal, but have a slight upward tilt.

The raa# راء is a non-joining letter.

Ways Not to Write the raa# راء

three bad rah's These three are wrong. Number one has a corner; that's bad because the letter should be a curve, like an eyelash. Number two is exactly a quarter of a circle, and looks somewhat lame. Number three is half a circle, and looks cartoony, too hooklike. The right way is somewhere in between 2 and 3.
