Always Taper Your Tails (the "takeoff")

At the end of a vertical stroke, we must stop the marker suddenly. But if we stop the same way at the end of a tail, that would leave a blunt end. Blund ents are, to say the least, disgusting. Letter tails are supposed to taper like scimitars.

To make their ends pointed, raise the marker from the paper gently BEFORE stopping the horizontal movement. Think of a plane taking off.

The tail of the letter م ends with a sudden stop, not a takeoff.

Most of the letters at this website feature untapered tails. That's an error, caused by using the wrong tool to draw (a mouse). Hopefully, I'll redraw the images some day.

Some markers can't draw a tapered tail, even if you're making the correct takeoff motion. If you have no other marker, make the correct motion nonetheless, or just use a pencil. Ballpens never make good tails; that's why I advised against them.
