Anciently, this letter looked like a ball, with a hole in the middle. Later, it shrunk, and the hole disappeared. Most of the time the letter looks like a knot. As a rule of thumb when reading: if you can't make out some letter because it looks too small, it is most likely a miym ميم.
There's more than one way to draw the miym ميم's knot.
One of them is drawing a triangle
like the ه's, but smaller, about half a square high.
Some people draw it clockwise, and others counterclockwise.
The miym's tail consists of a horizontal stroke about half a square
long, followed by a vertical stroke about two squares deep.
For some unknown reason, most westerners tend to have problems with
these specifications, and on their first attempts they draw
the horizontal and the vertical the same size.
