(th)aa# ثاء

[letter _taa] This is the "th" of "theater". Be careful never to pronounce it as the "th" of "another" —that sound's a different Arabic letter, the ذ. See ذ for details.

Dialectological Note

Some Arabic speakers pronounce this letter exactly like the ت. Don't do that if you can avoid it. But, of course, if you can't tell a ث from a ذ, youŽd be better off mispronouncing the ث as a ت than English-style as a ذ.

Drawing the (th) ث

Draw the ث like the ب, just substitute three dots above for the one dot below.
