HP LASERJET 5P/5MP AND 6P/6MP PRINTERS - ADDITIONAL PCL AND PJL COMMANDS (2 BYTE PCL, PRINTING DIRECTION, MP TRAY SELECTION, PRINTER NAME, PRINTING TEST PAGES) ADDITIONAL PCL CODES 2 BYTE PCL 2 byte PCL allows 2 bytes of information to be downloaded to the printer to print one character. This is necessary to accommodate large symbol sets, specifically the Asian languages. Text Parsing Methods There are three text parsing methods used to send 2 byte information down to the printer, and all three are included in the HP LaserJet 5P/5MP printer. Details about these methods are found in the HP LaserJet 4PJ printer Technical Reference Manual. The escape sequence tells the printer the text parsing modes are changing. The number represented by the pound sign specifies which parsing method. &#P # = 0-1 for One-byte # = 21 for Asian 7-bit # = 31 for Shift JIS # = 38 for Asian 8-bit PRINTING DIRECTION This PCL command allows the printing of characters vertically from top to bottom instead of horizontally from left to right. &cA#T # = 0 Horizontal # = -1 Vertical ADDITIONAL PJL COMMANDS NOTE: The following PJL commands are in addition to the numerous PJL commands that are defined in the PJL Technical Reference Manual. MP TRAY AS A CASSETTE OR FIRST TRAY This command sets the configuration of Tray 1 (MP Tray) as either a FIRST tray or a CASSETTE tray. The command is as follows: Ec%-12345X@PJL DEFAULT MPTRAY = FIRST or CASSETTE Ec%-12345X NOTE: The default value is FIRST. PRINTER NAME DEFINITION This command changes the printer name to anything up to 32 characters. The command is as follows: Ec%-12345X@PJL DEFAULT PRINTERNAME = XXXXXXX Ec%-12345X Put in the desired printer name for the XXXXXXX values. NOTE: This change will reflect in all places that print the printer name. PRINTING SELF-TEST PAGES This PJL command instructs the printer to print any of the six self-test pages or the continuous self-test.
