Esta página tiene para descargar distintos programas, y colecciones de los mismos en varios formatos; incluso hasta la imagen de un DVD de 4 Gb, que se actualiza en la página con una frecuencia de edición mensual.
Aunque el objetivo de la página es fomentar el uso del freeware (no necesariamente sin instalar), es una muy buena colección.
Muchos programas que se encuentran en CDlibre ya estaban en TTK hace tiempo, pero alguna de las últimas incorporaciones de TTK provienen de esta página. [img[Emoticon/z02.gif]]
* Agrupar en una carpeta, por ejemplo "New", el contenido del ISO.
* Crear dentro de "New" la carpeta "isolinux", que contendrá los archivos "isolinux.bin", "isolinux.cnf" y "bootmsg.txt", procedentes de una de las distribuciones empleadas para crear el ISO.
* Añadir en la carpeta "isolinux" tantas carpetas como OS haya que arrancar e incluir en cada una de ellas el "kernel" y el "initrd.gz" o equivalente de cada OS.
* Añadir en lo que será la raiz del disco los archivos comprimidos de cada OS. Procurar que no tengan el mismo nombre, como pasa con los distintos derivados de Knoppix. Si eso ocurre la solución es más larga, y hay que editar también los archivos "initrd.gz", lo que lleva más tiempo y conocimientos (que hay que buscar en páginas especializadas).
* Editar, en "isolinux", "isolinux.cnf" y "bootmsg.txt" con los códigos necesarios para arrancar los distintos OS, generalmente las opciones por defecto de cada cual, teniendo en cuenta el nombre de las distintas carpetas creadas al indicar en "isolinux.cnf" dónde se encuentra el "kernel" y el "initrd.gz" o ficheros equivalentes de cada distribución incluida.
* Añadir nuevas carpetas y ficheros.
* Para hacer funcionar el script que crea el ISO multiboot (el texto dado vale para Ubuntu), hay que abrir una terminal, hacer <cd> (y ver con <ls>) hasta llegar a la carpeta que contiene lo que será el disco y copiar el contenido del script en la terminal, que al ejecutar genera un ISO en la raiz del nivel del arbol de ficheros donde está la carpeta.
* Se puede usar un script semejante a este (HAY QUE QUITARLE LAS "" del principio y del final): "sudo mkisofs -N -D -V "aquí_nombre_interno_del_disco" -J -joliet-long -b "isolinux/isolinux.bin" -c "isolinux/boot.cat" -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -o ../nombre_dado_al_nuevo_iso.iso ."
* Para grabar el ISO creado puede emplearse luego cualquier programa de grabado de CD.

-Tiene mejor resueltas las extensiones, que no necesitan instalarse, conocidas por 'optional'
-Trae Firefox de serie para red

At the beggining, I alternate the use of lives Linux with the installation of some of them. For installations I preffered Mandrake (now Mandriva) because its simple way to install. At that time Feather Linux was a serius competitor of DSL though it derivates from DSL. But presently DSL is the king. :!:
I like the way it recognizes the hardware of almost any computer in which I have tested it. I like the extensions that work without install from the 'optional' folder, and the easy way to change the configuration of the optional programs, that I perform by simply change the composition of this 'optional' folder. :idea:
A system that relly in its ability to boot in any computer, is really better than an installed system that needs sometimes specific drivers for each motherboard or perypherals. [img[Emoticon/z05.gif]]
Time ago, I used to install DSL after catching another version, but now I never install DSL. I do not see the need.

Portable freeware is good but portable data is still better!
I am concerned wit the future of portability based in specific file formats. For this reason my standard is that not only I could use a portable software, but also the data processed must be portable to other OS and to other application.
For instance, lets use a good database to store valuable information. Time ago, I identified mysql for windows

as the best freeware web based database, so I started using it for anyone of my data, including telephone contacs, home accounts... The first thing was to make it portable, and to separate the data folder from the application folder, in order to perform easy backups of the data, for safety and for opening the data in another host.
Mysql is the best all-purpose database solution, including group sharing of data. Mysql is able to export data into txt format, which is good to import them to other apps and from windows to linux or other OS. The problem arises when you see that in the mysql files the data are not encrypted. For a set of information that is put togheter to a group, there is no big problem, because that data are just for sharing amongh the group members. But this is not good for your personal data.
Then I started using for my personal data a small portable database based on text files to increase data portability, svw data keeper for windows:

This small application is able to work with txt data files (csv) and also to encrypt the data files when necessary. You may save the data files encrypted or as plain text as you want. The problem is that svw data keeper is not 'flexible' to manage massively the data, modifying rows and so on. The usual way to edit data is register by register.
CSVEd, portable as well, for windows, on the contrary, is great just in the raw data management into a csv or tab delimited text file:

It has lots of functions for bulk modifying, columns, row management, import and export facility between different text files (CSV, tab delimited, etc.). This makes CSVed the best txt based files management application I know. But CSVEd has no data calculation functions.
A portable spreadsheet for windows was needed, also able to work with txt based data files. Then I added to the 'team' Spread32 (Though that it is shareware).

Using the 'trio'of small portable programs for windows: 'Spread32' together with 'CSVEd' and 'svw data keeper' is a very good option to have the 'control' of your personal data based on plain txt files. The three programs can interchange files in text format (cvs) between them and with other database apps, but when needed you may encrypt them with svw data keeper.
To manage non specific data, that was enough. But contacts and agenda, are better managed with EssentialPIM for windows:

This portable application can import and export text based datafiles and several other PIM formats, including outlook sync ability. And has very good edition functions for personal notes, that can be exported to HTML as well. So, for personal data, EssentialPIM is the tool. I have been able to send to my mobile telephone my contacts exporting them from EssentialPIM to outlook and then syncronizing outlook to my mobile. All data, contacts, schedule and notes are saved to a single file, that can be passworded. You may have different files for different purposes, for instance one file for personal data and another for job data.
And, to finish the team of portable txt data file applications for windows, we may add

This small database is able to import and export data to csv files, encrypt them (without changing the filename, it is to say, without giving idea on what is the decrypting application.
With all that portable 'army' you can be sure about privacity of your personal data, combined with full portability of the source data in txt format. Txt database files are the best for data portability to other OS and applications, both: windows and linux based.
Instead of using plain txt files just for export data, this approach is focusing in using txt files as the base of the personal data system.

Some days ago I was interested in the same subject, but for different purpose. Since I am preparing a sort of 'distribution' with my portable software, from time to time I need to 'clean' the settings that the program writes when used for trials, in order to keep the distribution as if it were composed by unused programs after a 'new installation'.
I was analyzing which programs of my basic collection (my very best four or five dozens) were using to save settings in an 'INI' file; then I collected the INI files of each one, changing them to their initial values (deleting, inside the INI files, the registered data or information about what are the program folders, the last files opened and so on). Then I put all the INI files, ready in a folder tree, reproducing the folder tree of my 'distribution'. In this way I can clean at once all my collection before preparing a new ISO, no matter if I have run the programs of the distribution for my daily use, simply copying the INI-files-tree to the collection-folder-tree (the INI files in the collection-folder-tree are overwritten by the clean INI files, thus becoming also 'clean', without personal settings).
Surprisingly only few programs among all my collection need to use INI files. And the size of the INI files together is negligible compared to the whole collection. There are some other programs that do not work that way, and use not an INI file alone, but several database-like files. In that later cases, to have a 'clean' new program, the best method is to delete the folder of the program and to copy a new copy of the program preserved unused for the 'cleaning' operation (substituting INI files alone is not enough).
I will try to recover my results and will post a summary on that. While my purpose was different, may be helpfull anyway Rolling Eyes
I propose to open a thread in the Forum specifically to address this subject.

ExportTiddlersPlugin provides an interactive control panel that allows you to select and extract tiddlers from your ~TiddlyWiki document, and write them into another file, using one of several different file formats:

After fine tunning and some extra tests I have to conclude that the given list is correct.
Very interesting to know the result of some trials:
- NVU was not running in Slax but it was running both, in DSL and in Ubuntu Studio.
- 1by1 had the same behaviour: It was not running in Slax but it was running both, in DSL and in Ubuntu Studio.
The conclussion is in favor of the smaller distribution, DSL, that proves to be very good as a plattform for portable apps in Linux.
The way I have performed the latter trials is very comfortable:
0/ I had Wine in the Linux system, either installed (Ubuntu) or as a module or extension (DSL and Slax).
1/ I copied the folder with my Windows portable apps in the home directory of Linux (a place where I can read and write).
2/ I started P Start, clicking in its icon; when Linux prompt to me what application must open the file P Start (not necessary in Slax), I write "wine".
3/ I followed indicating P Start to search as a folder for applications to launch, the folder with portable apps in the home directory.
3/ I started one by one with P Start the apps, and performed trials.

This plugin lets you selectively combine tiddlers from any two TiddlyWiki documents. An interactive control panel lets you pick a document to import from, and then select which tiddlers to import, with prompting for skip, rename, merge or replace actions when importing tiddlers that match existing titles. Automatically add tags to imported tiddlers so they are easy to find later on. Generates a detailed report of import 'history' in ImportedTiddlers.

Press ''[browse]'' to select a TiddlyWiki document file to import, and then press ''[open]''. Alternatively, you can type in the path/filename or a remote document URL (starting with http://). When you have entered the desired source location, press ''[load]'' to retrieve the tiddlers from the remote source. //Note: There may be some delay to permit the browser time to access and load the document before updating the listbox with the titles of all tiddlers that are available to be imported.//
Select one or more titles from the listbox (hold CTRL or SHIFT while clicking to add/remove the highlight from individual list items). Use the ''[-]'', ''[+]'', or ''[=]'' links to adjust the listbox size so you can view more (or less) tiddler titles at one time. Tiddlers that have been imported can be automatically tagged, so they will be easier to find later on, after they have been added to your document. New tags are entered into the "add tags" input field, and then //added// to the existing tags for each tiddler as it is imported.
''Skip, Rename, Merge, or Replace:''
When importing a tiddler whose title is identical to one that already exists, the import process pauses and the tiddler title is displayed in an input field, along with four push buttons: ''[skip]'', ''[rename]'', ''[merge]'' and ''[replace]''.
To bypass importing this tiddler, press ''[skip]''. To import the tiddler with a different name (so that both the tiddlers will exist when the import is done), enter a new title in the input field and then press ''[rename]''. Press ''[merge]'' to combine the content from both tiddlers into a single tiddler. Press ''[replace]'' to overwrite the existing tiddler with the imported one, discarding the previous tiddler content.
//Note: if both the title ''and'' modification date/////time match, the imported tiddler is assumed to be identical to the existing one, and will be automatically skipped (i.e., not imported) without asking.//
''Import Report History''
When tiddlers are imported, a report is generated into ImportedTiddlers, indicating when the latest import was performed, the number of tiddlers successfully imported, from what location, and by whom. It also includes a list with the title, date and author of each tiddler that was imported.
When the import process is completed, the ImportedTiddlers report is automatically displayed for your review. If more tiddlers are subsequently imported, a new report is //added// to ImportedTiddlers, above the previous report (i.e., at the top of the tiddler), so that a reverse-chronological history of imports is maintained.
If a cumulative record is not desired, the ImportedTiddlers report may be deleted at any time. A new ImportedTiddlers report will be created the next time tiddlers are imported.
Note: You can prevent the ImportedTiddlers report from being generated for any given import activity by clearing the "create a report" checkbox before beginning the import processing.

I have been simultaneing Windows and Linux since last five years. I started with old Slakware 4, Red Hat 6 and Mandrake (Now Mandriva) 7.
After a survey of more that 400 distributions (Including updates) corresponding to not less than 100 different kinds of Linux and BSD, I choosed three graphical desktop 'live' (no-install) to be the best: [b]Damn Small Linux[/b] ("50 Mb of Penguin Power"), [b]Puppy Linux [/b](65 Mb), and [b]Slax[/b] (200 Mb). Both three have 'optional', 'extensions', 'modules' no-install, etc. to use at run time that cover much of the programs that go tied to hundreds of packets in the mainstream distributions. In the three mentioned instead, you may choose which extensions made sense in your case, and do not need to carry the apps you do not like it or not use it. Translation: I like to use a non-install applications collection to run onto a non-install Linux, to write on a non-install pendrive. [img[Emoticon/z25.gif]]
I regret to have to buy a new computer, that I do not need, just to play with the last OS issued by MS. I regret that most of the power of computers is devoted to increase the complexity of the 'envelope' (desktop) but not to increase the contens (effective calculus power). I wonder how the actual generation could reach the moon with so old computer specimens available in the sixties... In fact I have not recovered, with the new spreadsheet programs, the capacity of the old Lotus 123 spreadsheet version 3 that I had 20 years ago, running on a i386.

I think that it could be useful to open a 'folder' in the database on 'lives' Linux. When I say portable Linux I mean live ones.
Historically, the mainstream Linux have been installable OSs. The last years I see a tendency of issuing more live Linux distributions. At present time several Linux offer to you to run in live mode or to install them. In this way you may test if they suit your needs before to fix them. After several trials I concluded that I do not need to install any Linux anymore. This is because the live distributions are designed to test your hardware very efficiently. Nothing to compare to a regular installation process of any MS-Win, and the dayly startup process takes about the same time that to run any installed OS.
Most of Linux come in a bundle with lots of packages that you usually never use. This is not good for user education, because then you do not need to decide what you want, and you waste lots of resources (disk occupation for instance). Amongh the live Linux there are some distributions that have very interesting developements, consisting in modules, extensions or optional packages that you can use on the fly, without any setup process or with a minimum one. For a desktop user, not skilled in programming neither in Operative Systems, like myself, these Linux distributions are perfect because I may burn a disk as a starter, and I may have the extensions ready to use them in a portable way from a pendrive, like as for 'regular' portable apps in MS-Win I do.
The underlying concept is to take profit of the advantages of Linux with respect to MS-Win. We may discuss then on what app has a parallel app in both OSs. This could assure portability between OSs. And wont enter in collision to other pages like the devoted specifically to Linux...
Anyway if we keep the portable concept to Windows, this site will still be very good. I enjoy PFC, and visit the page every day in search of news.:roll:

I propose here my four commandments of PORTABILITY:
1.- System shall be in an other partition than data, thus making data to be independent of the OS: In practice this means to make a partition for the OS and another for data or at least to have the data in a pendrive in a safe place far away where OS is working. Implications: You may transPORT data to another computer in an easy way. You can recover your OS with Ghost or Partimage, without touching or deleting a single data of yours. Data must be independent of data itself: It is good idea to have a mirror of all your important data included in your hard drive to an external drive. In case os crash you can always recover your data from the mirror.
2.- Data shall be independent of the application that has produced them: Data must be easily exPORTED or imPORTED between programs and also between OSs. In this way you may edit a document at the office with MSWindows and reopen it after with Linux or viceversa.
3.- Programs shall be independent of the OS: This is the main approach of this site (programs that can be run in any computer, PORTED in a pendrive or other PORTABLE mean). The best of the best are programs that can run in a PORTABLE manner under emulation in other OSs (Example: Programs for M$ run in Linux with Wine).
4.- Software shall be independent of the computer: The total PORTABILITY is reached when you may run your OS in any computer or in the limit without any hard disk. This is the case of a live Linux or the UBCD4Win.
Four commandments are summarized in just one: PORTABILITY is equal to INDEPENDENCE.
Some discipline must be put at work and the eyes must be wide open to maintain the four independence rules, but it worths the while: Making so I have never lost any important data. Ideal case (In fact a very real case): Imagine a computer that run a Live Linux, that has no hard drive, and that has a pendrive as a data stock. The Live Linux runs booting from the USB pendrive itself. All data saved in PORTABLE formats. This is a real PORTABLE (and could be very cheap) computer.

I was idle, and I decided to install OpenSuse. It is an impresive distro, with lots of packages (a DVD containing about 4 Gb of compressed software) and full featured. Installation was fine, nothing to complain. It took half an hour. The tunning took a little more, about one hour more.
The folders that I saw and used with Windows were not automatically mounted and I did not remember how could I mount the Windows partitions, therefore I could not use them. When I went to watch one of my favorite films, saved in format of an AVI file, with the multimedia player delivered with Suse, I realized that the codecs necessary to play the film were lacking...
Since I am not expert in finding such codecs, and I do not know how to install them in Linux, I decided to make a simple test: What about Puppy or Slax? Were they able to play an AVI film without any special adjustment?
They did! Though that both are 'live' Linux and do not need any install processs.
So I decided to delete my previous installation of Suse and to install Puppy in its place.
The installation of Puppy took two minutes. The tunning, including the checking of the 'boot launcher' Grub, about five more. I may see (an use) all my files of the Windows partitions. When I want to update the distro it will take 5 minutes...
Portability is a more wide concept, thanks to Small Live Linux like Puppy.

It is clear the concept of DATA portability. I gave the example of data portability with databases based on TXT files. We could add that there are out there other formats that have become almost standard:
-HTML (As a subset of XML and both as a subset og SGML) for documents
-MPG for images
-MP3 for sound
-PDF for document images
They are data formats [i]portable[/i] because we may open all of them in any platform and OS.
In this site we mainly deal with APPLICATIONS that are portable between different MS Windows platforms. Which is another different concept.
I am interested in the kind of portability we research here, but my interest is focused as well in the future of portability. Ok, I have confirmed that we may pass from 32 bits architecture to 64 bits without any loss: To do so I rebuildt an old computer changing just the motherboard and accesories, and nothing happened. I do not know if the result will be the same changing the software instead of the hardware (ie from XP to Vista).
In a more abstract point of view, my interest is to know if we may find portability between Operative Systems. In MS Windows, if I want to run a Linux program, I have to run Linux fully into a virtual machine. But in Linux I may use Wine, that can run a Windows program as a standalone application, without having to include ALL WIndows in any virtual machine.
If we consider that Linux can read all kind of filesystems, including NTFS but Windows cannot read any Linux filesystem except FAT, FAT32 and NTFS, we may thing that Linux has got in front more future than Windows for those willing true portability. Wine is not perfect, but is improving, from time to time.
A kind of 'virtual machine' is a runtime, like Java. Generally the programs based in Java are more slow than the compiled ones, but with the increase of speed of the new generations of computers, the difference wil be negligible, thus making possible a kind of portability between plattforms by means of usin interpreted applications...
I would like to discusse about programs that can run in Linux as in Windows, and in standalone mode, no matter the method the are using for doing so.

Today I am glad to share this experience :lol:
I was trying to bring my files in a way that prevents any loss and make possible to use them indisctinctely in Windows and in Linux.
I am currently using Truecrypt as container for files in Windows, but I had no experience in using Truecrypt in Linux. Since it is a command-line operated app in Linux I found a little difficult to deal with. So I though it was good idea to bring the files 'free' inside a Truecrypt container and make a passworded ZIP with its contens for two reasons:
-one/ for periodically backups, changing in the zip name every time including the date in the name
-two/ thinking that I could open later the passworded ZIP file in Linux.
As a backup method in Windows is still good, but for the second purpose did not work since I was not able to open any Windows ZIPed file later in Linux.
Therefore I have tested if I can open the Truecrypted container file directly in Linux. After half a dozen of trials, changing some parameters, I have been able to open the Truecrypt container in Live Linux Slax Killbill edition 5.1.8. And of course, later on I have been able to open one of my TXT file database with TablePro, so I could re-start in Linux a work with a file created and populated in Windows, being all the time, included the traveling time from a place of a computer to another, all the files in a safe Truecrypt container.

I remember one of my first posts dealing with the lema "Portable freeware is good but portable data is still better": http://portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1212.
I am looking for a 'shorcut' to be able to work at office with Windows and at home with Linux.
Therefore I need portable apps, portability between OSs, and security for the data transport.
The issue is not easy. I am maintaining a database to have an idea of how many of our portable apps run on Linux Live Slax Killbill edition (a nice Linux that does not need to be installed on a hard disk, thus it is portable too), under emulation (Slax Killbill has Wine installed, a WINdows Emulator).
I succeed to use Truecrypt on Slax. http://www.truecrypt.org/ This gave me the possibility to bring files safe into a Truecrypt container and open the container on both OSs (Windows and Linux). The problem is that, in Linux, Truecrypt is still at a stage of development that only can run in comandline mode. This is not good for a regular Windows user.
I tried to bring files closed into a ZIP file. FreeCommander is able to zip folders. The problem is that if you do not want that anybody can see the name of the files into a zip, you need to zip it twice (.ZIP.ZIP), the first time can go without encryption and the second time you can encrypt it... This solution is not good: I could not open any of these files encrypted on Windows, when I tried it later on Linux.
Then I tried to ZIP myfiles folder once with FreeCommander, without encryption, and encrypt later the ZIP file with Neocrypt. http://neocrypt.sourceforge.net/index.php?name=download.xml I succeed in Windows but encountered inconsistencies in Linux (I could see the files into the folder but I could not open none of them).
Finally I succeed with another simple encrypting app: RipCoder. http://ripcoder.softonic.com/ This small app is able to run perfectly on Windows and on Slax Killbill, making possible to transport an encrypted ZIP file with a folder of sensitive data without risk to be seen by anyone that finds your lost pendrive, and open the encrypted ZIP file in any of two OSs (Windows and Linux). Good morning.
After long time I come back with this subject. But I have changed the method. Until now I was making trials on Slax Killbill Edition http://www.slax.org/ . Now I am making trials on an installed Linux "Ubuntu Studio" http://ubuntustudio.org/ , a distribution for multimedia edition.
I have installed Wine 0.9.45 in Ubuntu Studio, I have tested the major part of my core PORTABLE apps and the result is sumarized in the links page of my web site:

All the apps that did run on Wine in Slax now are running in Ubuntu Studio, and all the apps that did not run on Wine in Slax now are not running in Ubuntu Studio. So We must conclude that the behaviour of the different apps does not depends on the distribution, therefore I am confident that my conclussions are good for any distribution.
I have tested around 90 Windows portable apps, and about the half of them run on Wine (some of them with, but the majority without comments).
In my case this is changing my working scenario: Since I want portability at any time, and within all the OS that I need (Windows and Linux), I will keep only using, whilst I can, apps that are portable ALSO in Linux on a Wine device (Windows Emulator), and I will be using the apps that not run on Wine, seldom, being gathered in another different folder to avoid confussion with the ones that run.
I know that some of the apps that today did not run on Wine need a little tunning; may be in near future I will give them some chance. If I succeed in my trials I will post the results.
Generally the apps that did not run on Wine were highly dependant on DLLs or other Windows libraries, or are too much related to the file tree or have a big size, and Wine cannot manage the needed memory, or depend on the design of their GUI ('too much drag and drop'). This knowledge could be usefull to the developers of portable apps, to avoid such circumstances.

Dear friends.
The list below is a list of portable programs. I am indicating by the "(......INI......)" label that the program listed, at run time, is writting an INI file. If you want to use the program in different conditions (in another computer, for instance), this INI file could lead to wrong settings, but can be edited easily. In the case of Fast Stone Image Viewer, the program is using (by deffect) some databases of thumbnails, etc. It is possible to change this behaviour in the options menu of the program. If you need to use the program in different conditions, or the database are growing too much, then it could be useful to use a complete clean copy, preserved unused for this purpose, deleting first the old folder and replacing by a copy of the unused one.
This list is a basic list, but covers very well the major part of a standard user needs. It is divided into programs that run well in Linux with Wine ___My-Wine___ section, and those that do not ___No-Wine___ section. Inside each group they are divided again in main functions identified as _Edit, _Image, _PIM, _Play, _System:

It is a small, portable app that make possible to encrypt files or archives whith a password, in order to make sure they are safe in case of pendrive lost.
I tested sandboxied and only saw a file in c:\windows: 'SbiePst.dat' sized 1 Kb and written not human readable.
With RegSeeker it seems that only writtes the place of the file in the filesystem. Regshot does not show changes. (But I am not sure if I operated regshot well).

TTK apuesta por:
1.- El empleo de sistemas operativos -SO- 'live' o, dicho de otra manera, que arrancan directamente desde el CD rom o desde el DVD rom, normalmente DSL, Puppy Linux, Freedos, PC2, y
2.- El uso de programas de uso corriente que no hay que instalar, y aplicaciones de rescate, que arrancan desde ese medio removible.
La idea es que los medios removibles, como el CD rom o el pendrive = disco USB, puedan ser un soporte suficiente para llevar todo el software necesario, de forma que podemos tener todos los programas que necesitemos en cualquier ordenador, y podamos:
1.- Arrancar el ordenador sin usar el propio sistema operativo. Algunos ordenadores no pueden arrancar desde un pendrive, aunque cada vez son más los que si pueden, pero la mayoría pueden arrancar desde un disco óptico, CD o DVD.
2.- Usar programas para windows o para linux que funcionan desde el disco óptico, sin inslalar. La ventaja del uso de programas que arrancan desde un disco óptico, es que éstos no pueden corromperse o estropearse. Como el método implica que los programas funcionarán sin instalar, tampoco estropearán nada en el PC en que se usen.
3.- Rescatar la información contenida en un disco de un ordenador que ha fallado [img[Emoticon/z52.gif]] por causa de un virus o una mala operación, empleando para ello uno de los sistemas operativos que lleva el disco removible.
Lo que en un principio fué un modo de usar los programas preferidos en cualquier sitio, se ha ido refinando hasta el punto de que progresívamente, la mayor parte del tiempo se pueden emplear sólo los programas de TTK y lo que en principio fueron sistemas operativos de emergencia van siendo cada vez más, los sistemas operativos de trabajo y van siendo menos de emergencia.

This plugin automatically adds a 'save as' command to the TiddlyWiki 'backstage' menu that allows you to quickly create an exact copy of the current TiddlyWiki document. This plugin provides trash bin functionality. Instead of being permanently removed, deleted tiddlers are tagged with "Trash." Empty the trash by clicking on the <<emptyTrash>> button in the [[Trash]] tiddler. Holding down CTRL while clicking on "delete" will bypass the trash.

rilwis classification is related to the behavior of an app with respect to writting or not to the computer where runs. In my point of view there is another possible classification related to the behavior of a portable app with respect to its ability to run from different devices:
a. apps that run form a CDROM without warnings
b. apps that run form a CDROM with warnings at app boot time or at app shut down (want (but do not need) to writte something on the portable mean)
c. apps that run from a pendrive but do not run from a CDROM (need to writte something on the portable mean).
What is the importance of this point of view? If you want to have a colletion of apps that are not modified in any way at run time, then you need 'a.' apps (I name them 'ROMSOFT') http://www.telefonica.net/web2/ttk/in-roms.htm . These apps can run from a CDROM, preserving themselves to any damage or virus infection or anything else. Then you may plan (and succeed) to build an ISO containing these apps and you can run the ISO without the need to burn it onto a physical CDROM... [img[Emoticon/z36.gif]]

Hi all:
I have tested Vista in two ways:
1.-Installing some of my 'must' programs and
2.-Trying portable programs which are good for XP
1.-Installing my favorite firewall (sygate) caused a severe unestability that made the computer going to shut down every some minutes. Yes uncompatibility was anounced by the OS (Vista) at installing time, but I wanted to try. Since I never run Windows without firewall I tried to find and test other firewalls. I found two freeware and I was able to install one of them 'VistaFirewall' http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/index.html
Then I tried to install PartitionMagic 8 and Vista says that is not compatible,
neither Nero 6.3.1.5 is compatible, and so on...
2.-Trying portable apps: I noticed a few better behaviour with my basic portable apps. As a sample: Notepad2, FoxitPDFReader, FastStoneImageViewer, Truecrypt, essentialPIM, PStart, VideolanClient run in Vista, but my precious WXPCDControlPanel (necessary to mount an ISO as a virtual disc) is not compatible.

The compatibility of portable apps and Vista is a little better (but not more than a little) than when I run that portable apps into a Live Slax Linux Killbill Edition...
Recently I tested Ubuntu Studio. The skin of the desktop is very very similar to Vindows Vista. But Ubuntu Studio has docens of programs in the same installation disc, and in addition, lots of actualizations, ready for downloading, that cover almost all my needs. In comparison Vista is just the OS...
More than this: Linux is (almost) free.
Summary: My vote goes to... Slax Killbill for a portable (live) OS, and to Ubuntu Studio for a installable OS.
