We are a small band of friendly volunteers in Calpe. Our main duties are to take people to hospital appointments of which we can claim our expenses from the client. We are in need of interpreters as we currently only have one Spanish speaking volunteer. We provide practical assistance by loaning medical equipment for a small deposit & hopefully we can give practical advice with peoples problems. We cannot give financial advice or provide nursing care, but will perhaps know someone who can help. I have compiled a list of helpful contacts but whilst I believe it to be accurate, it does not constitute a recommendation from HELP of any one person or organisation. Please inform me if you find any of the contacts or information wrong.

Recent Information - May 2008

Thanks to Rotary Club of Calpe a donation of 400 Euros was made to Help in Calpe to purchase a wheelchair to replace one that had been stolen.

Sue is recovering from her operation & Terry O'Hara is doing a splendid job holding the reins.

Dual Carriageway closed 20/5/08
The road alongside the Salinas has been closed to traffic between the port roundabout and the Police Station roundabout, with a diversion in force along the avenida Europa. This is part of the installation plan for the new drains to carry away the rain water directly to the sea. I think we can expect the improvements to last some time, so get used to it.

Grants
The town hall has offered grants of up to half the cost of renovating the house frontages in the Old town. We can expect to see a smartening up of the area in an attempt to increase the attraction to Tourists.

No Se Vende
Police, just a few days after the various edicts were passed, have now fined over twenty people for trying to sell their cars on the street. The investigation starts if the authorities notice a car parked with a for sale sign in one of the windows, and eventually fines could rise to 750 Euros

Health Centre
The proposal to build a hospital/health centre in the las Adelphus area of Calpe appears to have been abandoned in favour of extending the existing health centre. This, however, will not be worked on until the completion of the new Denia hospital. Those with long memories will remember the ceremony, before the elections, when a time capsule was buried in the foundations of the extension just behind our existing centre. By the time we start the works, the time capsule may contain memories of a bygone age.
